Is it worthwhile buying a guitar from the US and shipping to Australia?!

Question: I can buy a decent guitar from the US at half the cost than buying the same here in Australia.

Answers: I can buy a decent guitar from the US at half the cost than buying the same here in Australia.

Shipping costs are a killer from the States, expect to pay anywhere between $150 and $600 AUD depending on the instrument and how it's shipped. Plus as an added bonus you'll almost certainly get slugged for GST and a $108 or so for a special import license courtesy of the greedy b!@#!$ in Canberra.

Plus no local waranty or backup on your purchase.

The cost is prohibitive and the chance of damage is high, unless extrememly well packaged. Even shipping to Canada has gone through the roof in cost. I recently sent a folk guitar to my stepson in Afghanistan.....$150.00. It will be higher to AUS, as I was shipping to an APO address. I have stopped shipping guitars that I sell on Ebay anywhere outside the 48 states because of the cost of shipping. Buy a guitar there, you will be sure of what you are getting and not have to wait for a damaged instrument.
