They mythbusters did a show in it. Turns out the dimpled surface of a mento is perfect nucleation site for carbon dioxide bubbles. They dropped the little candy into 2 liter bottles and got the resulting geyser to shoot 30 feet into the air!
it will make a geyser. It is tried and true! Ask the mythbusters. it is a TV show to bust myths.
