Help! Changing classical (nylon string) guitar strings?!?!

Question:

Help! Changing classical (nylon string) guitar strings?!?

I had a good friend of mine change my guitar strings (she's done her own and they're just fine) and when I got home I stretched it out (well, you know what I mean) so it won't detune as much and tuned it, but when I got to the high E, I was only on D when it just kind of slipped off. It made this weird and scary popping noise. So I slipped the string back in the hole and wound it up again, and it did it once more. Now I'm afraid to touch my guitar strings.. what do I do?!

Answers:

It sounds like you need to wrap it around the tuning peg a few more times before you put tension on the string. Try putting the string in the hole, then wrap it by hand around the peg a few times before tuning it.
