Answers:
Its a close run thing between Babylon 5 and Doctor Who for me.
Babylon 5 was a complex multi-layered epic with a breadth, depth and a sense of wonder unparallelled in TV drama. It tackled many moral and social issues and its underlying themes encapsulated many of the fundamental truths of human existence. It was a work of emergent fiction, in that the overall story was greater than the sum of its parts, so you have to see it in its entirety to get the full impact. It is perhaps the single greatest Science Fiction story ever told in the medium of television.
Doctor Who, on the other hand is by its very nature episodic, although it does have a continuity of sorts (a "canon", if you like) running through it. It is the longest running Science Fiction series in the history of television (next year is its 45th anniversary), and features some of the greatest and most imaginative characters, concepts, heros, villains and all round icons in the Science Fiction genre. Ask anybody what a Dalek is, or what the TARDIS looks like, and very few people would be unable to tell you, whether they are fans or not.
On balance, I would have to say that Doctor Who is my favourite, since it is the show I grew up with. I started watching it when it began in 1963 and am still a fan today. I loved it as a child and still do.
