What is some good underrated music?
im a guy looking for newer music. No oldies or classic rock. I like hip hop, rock. I am a fan of bands like dave matthews band and swollen members.
Answers:
Robert Randolph and the Family Band- Combination of rock, soul, jam, and some hip-hop influences. If you like DMB you'll love them. They also frequently tour with DMB and the two bands occasionally guest perform w/ each other
Umphrey's McGee- Probably the best live band out there since Phish broke up. They have free hour long podcasts of live performances in the iTunes store. You don't even need an itunes account to get them.
OAR- A poor man's DMB, decent, some good stuff, not always great though
Those are some decent newer bands. All three have albums within the past year or so, although for Umphrey's stay away from studio albums, go live if you can. OAR is the same, they have some live albums, including one that just came out within the past week (live at Madison Square Garden, taped in Jan/07, also released as a DVD).
RRFB's newest album is called Colorblind. It's solid, some weak tracks, but definetly a better live band. The album doesn't really show off their true talents, but they have no officially released live stuff, and while they do allow concert recordings (as do OAR and Umphrey's) by fans, their show recordings can be difficult to track down.
