I plan on writing letters to soldiers as a summer project, what do they enjoy he!

Question:

I plan on writing letters to soldiers as a summer project, what do they enjoy hearing about?

Answers:

Like one person said, It depends upon how old you are. So, let them know that. Let them know some things that are going on in your area. I remember it being good to hear about normal life. You can ask them questions about what they're doing, but remember they probably will not have time to write back. I was able to reply to about 3 letters a week of the 25 or so "Any Soldier" letters I was given. We were just too busy even in our "down time".
Also, remember that lots of the troops over there now have access to electronic communication so may put all their writing energy and time into staying in touch with their families. Best thing I had available for instantaneous communication was a 60 mile drive to an AT&T phone center uplink, for a maximum 10 minute call. E-mail would have been cool to have.
Anyway, just let them know a real person is thinking of them and do your best to take their minds off of their daily grind and let them know about things happening back home--even if it's your home. If you want to say you do or do not support the government's decision for us to be there but still support them no matter what, there really isn't any need. They know the American people support the American troops. They just want to hear about America and what its people, like you, are doing. I remember one letter I got from a kid who was fixing up his car. And another from a student having trouble in Statistics class. These may seem like unimportant things to put in a letter but I was able to relate to both topics and they helped me forget where I was for a little while at least.
