I've been through a few acoustics in my day, so here's my tow cents on the subject of size-

You didn't say that you were having problems with reaching from fret to fret, so you may want to look at some 'parlor' or 'auditorium'-sized guitars. Their bodies are smaller than a full-sized dreadnaught and may be the solution to your problem. Stick with either a 25 1/4" or 24.75" length scale.
As far as buying a guitar, stay off ebay and the internet. Go with someone who already plays to the local superstore, and test-drive a few potential buys.Have your partner play and you listen. If the guitar doesn't sound right and feel right to you , it's not a good guitar even if it was a gift.
If you want to save some money, know exactly what guitar you want to buy,go into the store on the last day of the month-the sales crew wants to wrap up their commissions, and -especially on a floor model-if you point out a ding or two, you can get a 10% or 20% off the tag. Before you hit them for the discount, make sure they agree to new strings, especially on a demo/floor model. Also, one make I recommend-I own two-is Seagull("Art &Lutherie" and "Simon &Patrick" are also made by the same company)-made in Canada, great guitars for the money. Good Luck!
