I wouldn't recommend either of those. It's like going to a Snowboarding Shop for basketball shoes. They probably don't have it and if they do, they won't be that good. It's the same thing here....Target and Wal-Mart are the leading retailers in the country and do not specialize in music equipment. They buy things in Bulk to lower costs and don't have any buying contracts in place with real guitar brands. I would recommend going to an actual Guitar Store or Music Store to make a purchase on a guitar. Here are some of my suggestions in the price range you supplied.

I would really recommend going with an actual guitar store. But if you have to go with the one at Wal Mart or Target, then I would have to say the one at Target.
