What's up with Myspace? In fact, why is there a Myspace?

I heard that everyone had a Myspace, so I decide to visit it and check it out. I saw that Myspace have people place their gender, how many children they have, how much is their income; they might as well ask what's their social security and bank account number. And the photos.......all I have to say about those is, WHOA!!!!
Why does everyone have Myspace and is eager to place all that personally information up there?

And maybe someone can help me out and explain YouTube also (I don't dislike it as much as Myspace, but I would like to know what's the deal with that as well)?

i think myspace is "a place for friends" says their so called logo. but i think this is a place to attract unwanted rapists and child predators, and there are a lot of them there, i got one so i could keep in touch with old friends when i went off to a new school-but i just got friend requests from men i didnt even like

youtube is a place to share videos, i have a youtube, and its kinda fun--its almost like a myspace-but not really
