Music Business?!

Question:

Music Business?

Hey guys I would like to start recording some of my own written music but don't know where to start and who to go to for beats etc. and what studio to record my music. Any ideas? Serious answers please!

Answers:

First, do you play any instruments? If not, learn some basic keyboard skills (how to play chords, melody, bass line, drum parts, etc.). Even entry level keyboards now have sequencers and pretty good simulations, even samples, of lots of sounds. Depending on what you get, you may even be able to use your keyboard for release-quality work. Until you acquire some skill on keys, just find a local keyboard player.
Even if they don't do the type of music you're writing, they can probably put you in touch with someone who does. We're all family.

[That actually answers "where to start" and "who to go to for beats". I'm not sure what that part means. Does that mean total music track, rhythm section, or just drum track?]

Get a multi-track recorder. Start off with a basic one to learn the process of recording. Eventually, you'll work your way up to a computer-based recording program. Don't bother going to a studio unless you're recording something for release, in which case the record label will be the one worrying about what studio to put you in. An entry level multi-track will only cost you a few hundred dollars, but a studio can cost you that much each day you're in there. You can have your own "studio-in-a-box", and it'll allow you to do experimental recording without having to tie up so much of your money.
