How to present a new product?!

Question:

How to present a new product?

I have no idea how to present my new music magazine. It's aimed at 13-24 years old. Any ideas???

Answers:

Honestly, I wouldn't even bother. Even though you are spanning only a small age bracket, there are many demographics within it. You have your young teen who is just starting to realise that the world doesn't end at the toys in their room, to young adults settling into their careers, life, relationships etc. Added to that, the diversity of the teenage 15-19 year old, from Goth, to stoner, to 'Jock', to pop princess, to everything else you can imagine.

You need to be more focused in your approach at who exactly you want to target. The fact that you don't know how to advertise to them means that you don't know who you are catering for. I presume this is a part-time project? Because you will never secure support (ie. advertising revenue) if you can't say who is going to buy your mag.

If you still want to go ahead with trying to please everyone, I suggest that you use the usual ploy of tabloid sensationalism(for the teeny boppers), mixed with strong journalistic articles on the particulars (eg. review a collaboration a band had, why it chose this collab. did it work etc. as opposed to the band itself, which has been done a million times) of well known, highly regarded acts (for the young adults). Try circulating a free 'sample' issue also, as word of mouth is an extremely strong advertising tool.

Even if you don't want to take my advice (I think I should add that I have a degree in marketing), hard work and graft may still help you succeed, eventually.

Good luck with it.
