This is close, but I'll have to say the Fender Telecaster in 1950. The Esquire/Broadcaster were morphed into the rest of the early lineup, including the Stratocaster, JazzMaster, Jaguar, etc. Les Paul was busy playing and recording with his wife, Mary Ford, thus slowing his progress on HIS contribution. Although he DID invent multi-track recording, sound-on-sound, The Goober Deluxe Sandwich.... he was BUSY.
