Answers:

Watch some videos of him playing live in 1962 to 1964 before he went electric. His kit was so simple: a guitar and a harmonica. His lyrics were derived from Woody Guthrie and traditional music but he quickly went beyond them, back into literary styles like that of Walt Whitman, Edgar Allen Poe, Arthur Rimbaud and the British Romantic poets. He was just a skinny little Jewish kid in a black sweater and dark glasses strumming his guitar and saying these amazing things. At the time, nobody had ever seen anything like that. Since, there have been thousands of imitaters. Then, in 1965, he started trying to play electric guitar in a band with a drummer. He did some neat things after that, but his original power was gone. Get "It's alright ma, I'm only bleeding" from iTunes and tell me that's not brilliant wordsmithing.
