Blockbuster says I didn't return my moves- but I DID!!!?!

Question:

Blockbuster says I didn't return my moves- but I DID!!!?

So, we got a recorded message saying that two movies- which I returned on the same day and am positive that I returned had not been returned (2 weeks ago). I called and they checked stock and did not find anything. The "manager on duty" who apparantly is not really a manager and the real manager is out for a week and 1/2 said: "What do you want me to do? I don't have the movies here so that means that you have them." Now, I'm being charged for them- and I know that I returned them. Has anyone worked at blockbuster. My gut says that someone misplaced them- or quite possibly passed them to a friend before checking them back in. I hate being so cynical- but what else can I do? Does anyone have experience with this and the ability to offer some insight. Thanks!

Answers:

I am a Blockbuster store manager and have seen this situation several times. Usually, the customer gave them to a friend to return and the friend misplaced them or took them to the wrong place to return, or the customer thought they returned them and actually forgot about them and found them months later behind the entertainment center, or whatever. However, if you know for a fact you returned them, gather as much information as you can to give to the store manager, and the manager can review the video surveillance. For example, if you know you handed them to a store employee on Thursday the 18th at around 9 p.m., the manager can look to see if you are on video doing so. If this still doesn't work, ask them when they will be doing a rental inventory. If your movies are in the wrong spot on the shelf somewhere, they will be scanned, and a "Found On Shelf" report will print up after their inventory is complete showing what items were on the shelf but not checked in. You can ask to see this report to see if your items were scanned during inventory. If this still doesn't work, ask for the corporate office number to call to complain. Usually a district manager will help you out to a certain extent with any charges.
