How do I dump the bar on my Strat to get squealing harmonics like Dimebag, Steve!

Question:

How do I dump the bar on my Strat to get squealing harmonics like Dimebag, Steve Vai and others do in songs?

I understand the part about flicking the string and then ? Do I need to set my effects so that I can get more "feedback" and pick up the rise in pitch as the bar is dumped? Am I going to break my bridge?

Answers:

dump the bar? to get squealing licks, you have to use a pick and situate your thumb to slightly hit the string... this is like triggering harmonics but yeah you also need to be overdriving the signal as well... use some kind of screaming distortion or something. and you can use your whammy bar to effect the pitch of the squeal or you can bend the string against the fretboard. don't strong-arm the bar and you won't break the bridge.
