How do i play the intro to metallica's one?!

How do i play the intro to metallica's one?

i only want to play james's part tho not kirks i wont do his till im better i can look up the tabs but i need to know wich strings to hit with the pick i hope you know what im talking about and i hope you can help me

ok let me rephrase that the only thing i know about tab is where to put my fingires other than that i cant really read it i just need to know what strings to pick

you start by placing your fingers in the power chord position on B. That means index finger on the second fret of the A string and ring finger on 4th fret of the next string down. Pluck the A string, then the D string, then the A again, then lift up your ring finger and hit an open D, and let it ring for the remainder of the measure.

Then reposition your index finger to the 3rd fret of the low E string, keeping your ring finger right where it is, and redo what you just did, except substituting 3rd fret of low E for 2nd fret of A.

Then redo the first part

Then redo the second part, except you hit the open D and then an open G right after.

Then you want to do the first part again.

Then do the first part, except with your index finger up so you're hitting an open A.

Then do the second part (low E 3rd fret)

The you do the dun-DUN dun DUN-DUN part, which is open lowE, then 2nd fret of the A string, then 2nd fret of the low E, then 2 hits on the 2nd fret of A again.

From this you should be able to figure out the variations in the rhythm part, up to the guitar part that comes right before the vocals come in. That part is pretty complex, only sounds right with both guitars, and I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner at all.
