How do I become a talent agent?!

Question:

How do I become a talent agent?

So, I have been having problems figuring out what I am going to do with my life. Then, one night my friends introduced me to the HBO show, "Entourage". When I saw Jeremy Piven play the role of "Ari Gold", the talent agent, I knew from that moment that is what I want to do as a career. However, instead of being an agent for actors, I am interested in the music business.

So I ask, "How do I become a talent agent? What are the 'ups' and 'downs' to the job?"

Basically, I want to know all of the info of the job.

I am looking for info from people who have experience. So, if you are someone who just sits on the computer ragging on peoples' questions, keep moving on.

I am serious about this.

Thanks in advance to everyone who gives me advice.

Answers:

I have some slight experience in the movie industry and I can tell you that from my experience, the article I've linked below is very accurate and good information for you to consider:

"The entertainment industry is a business where you need experience no matter what area you want to venture into. It is also a business where you often times end up volunteering for jobs just to obtain the experience. The casting business is one of those businesses where volunteering or internship is crucial. Most talent agencies are small and cannot afford to hire employees. When you visit agencies, you often times see one or two mature people who are the owners of the agency and a number of young people from time to time that are filing, making phone calls, sending faxes, etc. This is a win win situation because the agency gets the help it needs without affecting the bottom line and the intern gets invaluable experience as well as an inside look at the casting business."
