Can the korean Pop star Rain (bi) really make it in the American Market?!

Question:

Can the korean Pop star Rain (bi) really make it in the American Market?

After doing some searching I realized that other Asian musical artists haven't faired well in the U.S and I wonder why. I like Rain I think his success is interesting but I am not interested in his music. Even with his overwhelming success in Korea can he really make it in American?

Answers:

I agree with you. I don't really care for his music so far but admire him for his work ethic and how far he's come. I'm also unsure if he will be able to successful enter the American market. One, the language barrier. If you've heard him speak English...well, it's not great. I know he's making an effort but that doesn't guarantee anything. Two, there has not been an Asian musician who has really done well in America. I don't know if they will be very accepting. This is a new thing and people might not be willing to accept an Asian. Three, his style of music. I think his music is becoming more and more Americanized but it's still a little different. I honestly don't know how they will view his musical style. Yes, he's made it on the official TIME 100 most influential list. Yes, he was named one of People Magazine's 100 most beautiful. (He made the unofficial people's choice for TIME 100 most influential this year. In fact, he got #1. Stephen Colbert did a parody of his mv and since then has become more famous.) He is recieving positive attention, but I don't know if that will be enough to become a successful musician. What really worries me is the fact that he left JYP Entertainment. Park Jin Young has so many connections and the power to make Bi really famous, but since he left, obviously he won't have that tool anymore. Personally, I think it was a horrible decision, especially at a time like this. His US Tour was a huge disaster because of lawsuits and threats from multiple parties. I think a big deciding factor will also be how well his movie does. He's currently filming right now, and if that movie does well, I think he has a chance. If it turns out to be some crappy, cheap movie, I think people will have an even harder time accepting. Personally, I think it's going to take a lot of effort and time on his part for him to make it in this business.
