New guitar...?!

Question:

New guitar...?

i've been wanting to get an electric guitar for quite some time. i've had my acoustic for about 2 years which i started on. i want a good quality guitar that i won't get sick of that is inexpensive (i'm a teenager!). i've been thinking about selling my acoustic online, like on ebay or something... but i'm not really sure what to do since i'm low on cash. does anybody have any suggestions on where to get a good guitar and what brands etc are good? also i need to know what other equipment i need for an electric... and i don't know if it really matters or not but i prefer punk and alternative rock music
thanks!

Answers:

I'd go to guitar center(or whatever your local music supermarket's named) with a friend and test drive some guitars. Do an A/B comparison- play the same music on the same amp with each guitar and see what you think, and get some input from your friend. A few hints- once you have your mind made up, go into the store on the last day of the month- the sales crew is looking to lock up their commissions for the month, and if you can point out a small ding or scratch in a floor model, that can be good for a 10%, maybe even 20% discount off the tag. Also, hold out for a free setup before you start talking discount-any decent store should include it with the price, and they should offer either a 14-day or 30-day period where you can bring the guitar back for adjustments to the action or intonation. If they don't, find a store that will. I'm saying this-and not making specific recommendations- because in your price range, there are a lot of options, depending upon what music you play, your playing style, and what you use for an amp. remember-if it doesn't feel good in your hands and it doesn't sound good to your ears, it probably won't be down the road.
