Does the US have more or less outdoor musical concerts now?!

Question:

Does the US have more or less outdoor musical concerts now?

My question is an all around, general one about music. Is contemporary music in the US good, bad, ugly? Personally, I don't take music seriously. I've gotten to a point where I just buy cds, listen to it on the radio or download it so I can listen to it privately and enjoy it on my own without others' judgment. I don't go to live concerts and would just assume veg to completely polished, corporate commercial crap or listen to some taped live versions. But, I'm not militant about musical tastes or needing to hear more live music or rejecting commercial radio music. Are CD, music downloading hoarders like me contributing to a decline in music? To where someone makes music in a studio and then somebody else listens to it privately in a car or apartment and there's a loss of connection and spirit between musician and audience. Anybody with any thoughts?

Answers:

Where I live there is a lot of ourdoor shows and festivals. We even have like 3 outdoor venues that people play at. I believe John Mayer is in a couple of weeks.
CD sales are down because of downloads, esp illegal downloads.
