Do you think, Harry Potter books are better than the movies...?!

Question:

Do you think, Harry Potter books are better than the movies...?

Give in-depth answers, on the pros and cons of the movie to the book. Not a simple "yes or no" or a "I think its great." I want answers on what you think is better in each and every book and to the movies that are already out. Tell what you think about the characters and how they differ from the characters in the movies. All those writers that write personally on what you think entirely write!

Answers:

Well of course they're better. For one, each book is much more in depth than the movie could ever possibly be. There are very small intricacies that they just don't put in the book, not knowing it's relevance in the later books. If anyone has read the 7th book, you know they tie in all sorts of things that happen in the earlier books. Very small details like the Knight in the Painting. Plus, there is complete continuance of ideas and concepts unlike in the movies where different directors bring in different themes. Take for instance the movie where the director was obsessed with flying things: the birds around the whomping willow etc. That theme did not play out in the book and for some, it distracted from the story itself. Also the inconsitancies between movies because of directors: take for instance the 5th movie, just released, the scene where Sirius communicates by fire used to be embers taking the shape of his face in the 4th movie, but in the 5th, his face appears in the flames. Also the difference in Dementor's appearance are vastly different between the last two movies. The books never vary in this respect.

Other differences lie in the depth of the characters. The movies did a great job of portraying the characters, but because of the audience that a Harry Potter movie is aimed at, the directors chose to lighten up Harry's character. As anyone who has read the books know, he is a bit of a tortured soul who has very angry and EMO moments. The movies tended to gloss over this side to Harry.

Obviously 700 some odd pages can be more in depth and more telling than a couple hours. So the books are better than the movie. But the movies do do a great job of telling the main storyline. For those who wish greater understanding and detail, read the books.
