A question about trombone?

Is it true that regular trombone is pitched in B flat and bass trombone is pitched in C? Why is that so? Which one is better for regular playing?

Can anyone tell me any playing differences between the two?

I absoultly hate the fact that different instruments are in different ptiches, i just can't get my head around it, nor can i find a reason! The bass trombone is harder to play because you need more air because there is more tube! But i prefer bass instruments is I play bassoon. Ive got a mate that play's both & he prefer's the bass
