The sub, even though that can get pretty skrewed up too, is much more original than the dub!. I like to see both versions to make comparisons!. Sometime the dubs do turn out better than the origionals such as Special Combat Duty Shinesmen!. Other times dubs flop like One Piece!. I think that it's a matter of opinion on what's better because believe it or not, there are people who hate subs!.

by the way, not everyone watches anime on their computer!. Some actually rent or buy the anime like they are susposed to!.

Most of the time, the voice actors are ill-fitting to the faces!. Oftentimes, the voice actors sound like they can't act!. This is because the English script writers suck, or because the anime was dumbed down for younger audiences!.

Let's take a look at some of the worst dubbs of all time: Yu-Gi-Oh, Card Captor Sakura, & Sailor Moon!. What do they have in common!?

*Highly innacurate translations!.

*Complete script changes, changed relation status, or gender change, because the character's sexual preference was deemed too immoral for American Audiences!. There were quite a few gay people in Sailor Moon & CCS, the latter also had adults dating students!. in SM; Zoicite & Fisheye were supposed to be men & the "cousins" were lesbians!.

*Name changes: All 3 animes are guilty of this!.

*Yu-Gi-Oh had some seriously terrible voice-character matches!. Yuugi sounds like a girl in Japanese & an old man in English!.

*Missing scenses, missing episodes, & entire missing seasons!. YGO & SM each have a season that never got dubbed!.

*Dubb aimed at wrong age or gender target!. CCS was made for girls, but the American dubbers targeted young boys & tried to make Sakura's male costa Syaoran look like the main character!.

*Cultural nullification!. In SM, all the Japanese text has beed erased & written over in English, Dumplings become meatballs, rice cakes become doughnuts, & everyone's name is changed!.

*Veterin fans know that any anime that will become associated with 4Kids or Funimation is screwed!. They are even worse than Manga Corps; a company that can't even pronounce it's own name!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I'm one of those subs over dubs people!. Although there are a few dubs I enjoy!.

The biggest reason is simply quality!. In America, anime voice actors are the lowest paid voice actors!. People doing Spongebob Squarepants, for example, make a heck of a lot more money!. Since anime pays less, it gets less talent!.

In Japan, on the other hand, anime voice actors are almost celebrities!. And a lot of the voice actors are pop stars or cultural icons!. When was the last time America had a famous singer play the role of an anime character who has singing parts in the anime!? I can't think of any!. But in Japan, this happens all the time!.

So to answer your question, on average, Japanese dubs have higher paid, more experienced, and just overall better voice actors than English dubs!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I don't always like the dubs because they cut some pieces out and sometimes they even change what the characters say (this annoys me the most)!.
But dubs in america aren't that bad, they're much better than the more local ones!. Here, they don't seem to care about the character of someone at all!.
I didn't like the subs at first, either!. but when i caught up to the point where the dubs were still being made (naruto) i got tired of waiting for them to translate, so i started watching subs!. I kind of got used to reading them after that!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

ya im american and find dubbed anime pitiful!.

all the voices seem similar!. less emotion!.

they change to many words and make them dumb!.

they give trade mark sayings!. take naruto!. always saying "I wont give up!." in the dubbed version he says that line so many times its sickening!. subbed he doesnt!.

dubbed anime is unwatchable!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Because the dubs are, more often than not, crap!. That aside, you do find some diamonds in all that rough!. ex: Sven from the Black Cat anime!. His voice is done so well and fits him to a t!. As for the crappy ones, like Naruto, I don't watch it so I don't know!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

the voices are usually pretty bad!. one time i watched the Wallflower in English and i swear i thought it was bridged!!!!

but yeah i like subs and dubs too if the dubs are good!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

Because most of the voices in english are terrible one example is Naruto!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

well i love subs cuz i love japanese! its awesom! and i prefer watch the original stuff u know!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

For many of us who found anime and never looked back!.!.!.we were entranced by the voice acting of the characters!.!.!.besides the story and animation!. We knew we had found an art form that provided us with things our own american 'cartoons' were lacking!. Story!.!.!.maturity!.!.!.substance!.!.!.and choice!. And above that!.!.!.!.the voices were dynamic!. It almost felt like we had found stories from another world!.!.!.about a people who we had never met!.!.!.but could identify with!.!.!.and the characters voices were the icing on the cake!.!.!.!.dynamic!.!.!.expressive!.!.!.and full of life!. One day we get our hands on a dubbed anime!.!.!.and we start hearing american/canadian voices!.!.!.and many of the actors seem to be phoning in their performances!. There is very lazy 'I don't give a **** I already got paid' feeling we get from listening to these voice actors!.!.!.and suddenly our anime is not our anime any more!. We ask others into anime what the deal is!.!.!.and suddenly we find that there are two camps!. Those that don't want to read subtitles!.!.!.and much prefer american/canadian voices!.!.!.which absolutely leaves us scratching our heads!.!.!.and those who not only prefer subtitles!.!.!.and listening to the stories told in their native tongue!.!.!.as it should be!.!.!.but find it something of a mystery as to why anyone would listen to anime!.!.!.in english!.
What makes matters worse with the english voice actors!.!.!.is that it seems live the same five voice actors being used in all the dubs!. And rarely!.!.!.!.!. do they rise to the occasion the story provides!.
The main reason American Otaku's hate dubs is from a long history of trying to find an anime!.!.!.only to find the dubbed version and no subs!.
The other reason is the tremendous amount of arguments we have had with people who hate anime in subtitles!.!.!.and categorically refuse to even try a sub!.
I have no problem reading subs!.!.!.for it is part of the experience of being entertained with tales from another world!. It is a small price to pay for the incredible variety anime has to offer!.!.!.and one I will gladly pay!.!.!.until my Japanese langauge DVD's arrive!. I love the voices in anime!. It is an integral part of the experience!.!.!.for me!. And I wouldn't have it any other way!. Watching in english!.!.!.is not an option!. If I want to hear english!.!.!.I'll watch one of those horrendous products Disney passes off as animation!. Listen to the beginning of Gunbuster!.!.!.as Noriko begins to spin the tale of her father the space captain!. Listen as it starts out!.!.!.then changes!. Then try the english version!. Which one to choose!? For many of us!.!.!.there is no choice!.
