There's a DVD special series (bonus shorts that came with the DVD) known as "Shana-tan" featuring short gags from the actual story!. You should watch season 1 first in order to get what's going on originally!.

As soon as you're done with the Friagne the Hunter arc (first major enemy) in season 1, you may watch the movie!. The movie is a remade of that whole arc, but much more detailed and the plot follows the original novel closely!.
