Question: I'm considering on buying some Batman graphic novels!. Can anyone recommend any to a new reader like myself!?
I generally read Marvel Comics, like Captain America, Thunderbolts, and Astonishing X-men!. For me, anything written by Ed Brubaker or Warren Ellis is good!.

I recently started collecting and reading Geoff John's Green Lantern after hearing some good things about it!.

The problem is, these comics take ages to come out and I'm beginning to feel bored and want to read something while waiting for them to come out!.

I'm considering buying some Batman comics, but don't really know where to start!. Can anyone recommend some good graphic novels to a Batman novice such as myself!?

Thanks, I appreciate your input!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well, I'd start with either Batman Year One (not really my favorite, but it does set one of the main foundations for Batman's character over the last 20 years or so) or The Long Hallowe'en and its sequel, Dark Victory!. Then A Death In the Family and A Lonely Place of Dying!. These are truly excellent!. In terms of chronology, the next 'Event' would be Knightfall (It's in 3 parts) followed by Contagion!. They're good reads but not really essential, IMO!.

Somewhere in the middle, you should read The Killing Joke!. It's set shortly before Death in the Family and will show you one of the major turning points for one of the supporting cast members!.

Contagion leads to Cataclysm which leads to the 5-part maxi series: No Man's Land!. There's one trade after that, called Evolution, which didn't do much for me!. Officer Down is a good deal better!. Then, there's Bruce Wayne Murderer/Fugitive (3 Volumes)!. Next come War Drums, War Games, and War Crimes--which are okay, but not the greatest!. The next trade I'd recommend is Under The Hood!.

That'll take you up to about 2005!.There are later trades, but I haven't been paying attention since I usually buy my comics singly now!. This should be more than enough to get you started, though!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well I could suggest "The Killing Joke" there you find the day when the Joker start his career as Batman's nemesis!.
also you may consider the get "The Dark Knight Returns" from Frank Miller, this is another view of Batman on different situation!.
Don't forget the animated series and a good issue is "The Mask of the Phantom" you will find why Bruce Wayne turns into the Dark Knight!.
Be sure to get a great crossover Batman vs Predator, the artwork is great (Andy Kubert) and the story is cool!.
Those stories will get you in a easy and fast way to know a bit more of Batman!. Hope this bring to you some time of fun!Www@Enter-QA@Com

The first poster had pretty much listed all the Batman stuff you would ever need to get caught up with the last decade of the different series!. The Long Halloween is probably the best Batman trade and its a stand alone so if you just want something to read while waiting for those other books to come out I'd go with that!.!. Great story, great art!.

After the under the hoodd trade comes Hush which is really good as well!.
