Answers:
I doubt that there are many english books that teach japanese animation techniques, as that's a very niche market!. More likely you'll find books on anime history, essays on anime, and books that cite the more common differences between western and japanese animation!. But not technique!.

The technique is exactly the same anyway, but applied in a different and unique way, that's all!. I found this on Amazon:

http://www!.amazon!.com/Tezuka-School-Anim!.!.!.

Tezuka may not be the style of animation you want to work in, but the basics are the basics!. The basics apply to any kind of animation you're doing, you just tweak and apply them differently to get different kinds of styles and movement!.

A really awesome book for learning how to animate is Richard William's "Animator's Survival Kit!." Another one that just came out is Eric Goldberg's "Character Animation Crash Course!."

http://www!.amazon!.com/Character-Animatio!.!.!.

http://www!.amazon!.com/Animators-Survival!.!.!.

But if you're really concerned with breaking down and seeing how japanese animators do what they do frame by frame, there's no better place to learn from than the source!. Just pop in an anime DVD, play the movie/TV show and pause it, then use the frame/step forward function to watch the film frame by frame!. This will show you what the actual drawings look like frame by frame and what kind of movement they achieve!.

If you don't have any anime DVD's, download any of those programs that let you download clips from youtube!. I use Orbit Downloader!. Download an anime clip from youtube that you want to analyze, then use a media player like Windows Media Player Classic that lets you step through the video frame by frame!.

How's the movie coming!? What are you specifically having problems with!? Let me know and I'll try to help you out!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
