I am always searching for those obscure anime treasures that have some redemptive aspect that would recommend itself to someone who admires the esoteric and sublime !.
Please list whatever anime you would care to !.

Not sure exactly what kind of anime you are into, but here are some great lesser known anime:
-Legend of Black Heaven: The universe needs saving, and someone only a 40 year old salaryman's rock music can do it!. Totally different characters that the norm, and excellent music!.
-Kamichu: It's like a 15 episode long Myazaki movie
-Legend of the Galactic Heroes: THE space drama!. No plot-armor or hax abilities for characters!. Just dozens of characters fighting and dieing on multiple sides for what they believe is right!. Great characters and a deep history and story!.
-Battle Programmer Shirase: Although this short series got cancelled before it's time, it is still a fun series!. Who says lazy programmers can't be heroes!?
-Satoshi Kon movies (Millenium Actress, Perfect Blue, Tokyo Godfathers, Paprika): In my opinion, he is even a better director that Miyazaki!. Definitly give ALL these movies a shot!.
-All of Studio 4C's shorts (Digital Juice, Genius Party, Sweat Punch, Kigeki, etc): NO ONE makes shorts like Studio 4C (often they get bunches of famous directors and give them free reign on projects)!.
-Akagi and Kaiji: The best gambling anime there is!. Akagi for the ultimate winner, and Kaiji the ultimate survivor!.
-Dead Leaves: Remind me a lot of FLCL, and we all know how great FLCL was!.
-Kino's Journey: Little girl + revolvers + talking motorcycle + traveling through many different countries that reflecting human socieology= win!.
-Now and Then, Here and There: One of the saddest anime I have ever seen!. A Naruto-esk main hero gets stuck in an unforgining world and learns that not everything will work out ok just because you "Believe it!."
-Seto no Hanayome: My favorite romantic comedy!. Mermaid gangsters, epic singing duals, and buff men wearing school girl uniforms to better understand their daughters!. What's not to love!? also, it's the few times where a weak harem lead grows a spine during the course of the series and kicks some serious butt at the end!.
-Pet Shop of Horrors: Monsters of lore are all owned by one mysterious Pet Shop owners!. See the stories of him and new owners as they struggle with dealing with their new "pets!."
