In the first issue, the Hulk was grey!. Stan Lee wanted a color that did not suggest any particular ethnic group!. Colorist Stan Goldberg, however, had problems with the grey coloring, resulting in different shades of grey, and even green, in the issue!. Stan Lee picked the uncommon color, green, which is what the Hulk has been since then!.
But to answer your question, the grey Hulk was first transformation for Bruce Banner after the Green Hulk, triggered by the rise and fall of the moon!. This Hulk has the loweststrength because he is the most calm!. His strength increases with rage, though at a slower rate than the Green Hulk!. He is also the smallest of all the Hulk incarnations, though he is still much taller than most humans and still has considerably greater muscle mass!. Ok both of the current answerers are write The first part is originally the hulk was supposed to be grey and the consistancy issue came up in latter comics they devised an Idea to make a more rageous Hulk on par with the onset of black spiderman and costume changes for nearly the whole marvel universe!. Know it is accepted that the hulk is green but during momments of extream threat he can hulk out beyond the green giant and become like a grey super hulk (Meaner, Nastier and with little care for anybody!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
When Marvel first started the Hulk comic they made him grey the colorist had problems getting a consistent grey color so the book had lots of different shade colors of Hulk through it!. Stan Lee chose the green color and since issue 2 they have been coloring him green!.
