Pokemon! yu-gi-oh (yes that's how you actually spell it no first I) came out at least five years after pokemon was famous and known everywhere!. You could even compare the two shows animation value!. The early pokemon (the first i ever watched when i was a kid) was very low quality (Well back then i guess high quality) and when Yu-gi-oh came out it was already very far from that type of animation, it had a quality of 3-d ness!. So, i'd say pokemon came out before i was born while yu-gi-oh aired when i was like 8!.
Oh and i to hate both shows, but my little brother loves them *sigh* (well now it's yu-gi-oh gx seeing as yu-gi-oh went off air unlike freaking pokemon which is now on a whole other season and i have to still suffer through it!)Www@Enter-QA@Com

pokemon definitely came out before yugioh!. pokemon has been running for more than ten years, first debuting in 1996 around that time!. yugioih premiered from the year of 2001 and finished in the year of 2006 so pokemon was before yu-gi-oh!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
According to Anime News Network (fantastic site) Pokemon was first - starting 1997, and Yu-Gi-Oh came out later in 1998!. I think thats when they were aired in Japan though!. But still Pokemon came first!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
