Question: The real meaning behind my neighbor totoro!?
i was talking to a friend who has read somewere that the real meaning behind this film is that totoro is a death god (shinigami) and that when mays shoe is found in the pond it really is hers and satsuki just dosent want to beleve and then she finds totoro and finds mais spirit and something else!? is this true!? i mean i hop not seeing as though it was such a cute and happy storyWww@Enter-QA@Com

No!.!.that is not the meaning of the film!.!.!.if you see the end credits there are stills of them with the father and mother, who had been released from Hospital!. We did not see the mother coming out of hospital during the film, but it was mentioned!. Plus the shoe found in the pond was not Mai's shoe!.
I also suspect that Totoro was just a different version of Papa Panda in Pandako Panda!. except Toroto was more of a mythical creature!. Totoro was a mispronunaciation by Mai of the word Troll!. She was reading the stroy of the three billy goats and the troll
