Answers:
I'm sad that you don't like manga since I find it amazing, but I won't suggest any of those for you!.

As for graphic novels, well it all depends on what you like!. Here are some suggestionsof comics I like

X-Factor Investigations (aka X-Factor) (Marvel):
X-Factor Investigations is a detective agency run by Jamie Madrox, formerly known as the costumed superhero Multiple Man!. The agency was originally named XXX Investigations, but team members thought that it sounded too much like Madrox was investigating pornography!. The new name is taken from the government-sponsored mutant supergroup that the three founders had previously served on!.

Strangers in Paradise (self published):
The story primarily concerns the difficult relationship between two women, Helen Francine Peters (known simply as Francine) and Katina Marie ("Katchoo") Choovanski, and their friends David Qin and Gwynnethina Casey Bullocks-Femur (known as Casey)!. Francine considers Katchoo her best friend; Katchoo is in love with Francine!. David is in love with Katchoo (a relationship which Katchoo herself is deeply confused about) and Casey is in love with David!.

Y: The Last Man (Vertigo):
On July 17, 2002, something (referred to as a plague) simultaneously kills every mammal possessing a Y chromosome - including embryos, fertilized eggs, and even sperm!. The only exceptions appear to be Yorick Brown, a young amateur escape artist, and his Capuchin monkey Ampersand!.
Society is plunged into chaos as infrastructures collapse and the surviving women everywhere try to cope with the loss of the men, their survivors' guilt, and the knowledge that humanity is doomed to extinction!.

Sandman (Vertigo):
The Sandman's main character is Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams, who is essentially the anthropomorphic personification of dreams!. At the start of the series, Morpheus is captured by an occult ritual and held prisoner for 70 years!. Morpheus escapes in the modern day and sets about rebuilding his kingdom, which has fallen into disrepair in his absence!.

Zero GIrl (Homage Comics):
The plot concerns high school student Amy Smootster, and her attempts to start a relationship with her guidance counselor Tim!. Another plot thread follows her relationship with circles and squares---it seems that circular objects tend to help or defend her, while squares try to hurt her!.

House Of M (Marvel):
The story begins with a birth!. Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch, is surrounded by friends and family while giving birth!. Her attending physician, Doctor Strange, hands Wanda her newborn twins and declares the birth a great success!. At Wanda's side is her husband, The Vision, who is very proud of his wife and children!. From across the room comes a cold and distant voice—that of Professor Charles Xavier (Professor X) who demands Wanda return the world to normal!. She refuses, clinging to her babies, who shatter and disappear!.

The Surrogates (Top Shelf):
In the year 2054, people are using surrogates (remote-controlled artificial bodies) to interact with each other!. But someone is determined to return people to their old lives instead of living through proxies!.

Persepolis (Pantheon Books):
Persepolis details Satrapi's life during the war between Iran and Iraq!. Persepolis depicts Satrapi's childhood in Iran, and Persepolis 2 depicts her high school years in Vienna, Austria and her return to Iran where Satrapi attended college, married, and later divorced before moving to France, where she now lives!. Hence, the series is not only a memoir, but a Bildungsroman!.

Mail Order Bride:
It is the story of a lonely 39 year old comic and toy store owner Monty Wheeler!. Who is so desperate for companionship that he gets a mail order bride from Korea!. However, the woman he gets, Kyung Seo, is not the petite, deferent Asian girl that he was hoping for, and this is where the story takes off into chaos!.

Runaways (Marvel):
the series features a group of teenagers who try to make up for the evil done by their super villain parents (the Pride) by becoming superheroes!. They are known as "the Pride's kids" or "those kids in L!.A!." by other characters in the Marvel Universe, due to the team's lack of an official name and the majority of Marvel's characters being based in New York!.

Watchmen (DC):
Set in 1985, in an alternate history of the United States where costumed adventurers are real and the country is edging closer to a nuclear war with the Soviet Union; throughout the books, the Doomsday Clock is shown gradually ticking towards midnight!. It tells the story of a group of past and present superheroes and the events surrounding the mysterious murder of one of their own!.

These are all comic series that I really enjoy and i'm a girl!.
I hoep you will look intot he ones that interest you!.
also, won't you give manga a chance!?
Like I stated previously, I won't give you a list, but feel free to email me if you would like some suggestions!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The League of Extraordinary Gentleman (Volumes 1 + 2), V for Vendetta, Neverwhere, The Sandman, Watchmen, The Crow, Aliens VS Predator!. I guess my taste is more towards action-packed stories, but if you don't like that sort of thing, you could probably still get a lot out of Sandman and Neverwhere, maybe out of Watchmen too!. Any of the titles up there you recognise from films, don't be put off, the originals are much better!. Crow is just as dark as the film, maybe twice as dark, another good series with a similar feel is the Hellblazer series, sinister, spooky, but very clever and cool too!.

Like the first respondent said though, what could be better than to go and have a look around you local bookshop or comics emporium first hand!? There are so many titles, you're almost certain to find a range you will like!. Don't forget you can order them through your local library too!. I have found that libraries in the UK usually have a good selection on the shelf already to keep myself going with for a while!. Start with the Sandman series maybe, it's high fantasy in the modern age!.!.!. Books of Magic is a similar thing!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
