It's a safe bet that you've heard of Death Note, but if you haven't, you should read it!. It's a classic!.
The Full Metal Alchemist manga is also a great read!. It's actually better than the anime, and it hasn't finished yet!. The plot starts to diverge from the anime around 8 books in!.
If you like action/fighting series, Jojo's Bizarre adventure is awesome!. If you're not in the mood to read through 90+ volumes of manga though, I recommend reading series 3 (chapters 112-265) Each arc focuses on the adventures of a family of heroes, nicknamed "JoJo" for short!. Each story arc takes place in a different time period, and revolves around manly heroes fighting bad guys!. Series 3 is the best known of the bunch!.
GTO is hilarious!. It chronicles a former biker-punk who becomes a teacher, initially to hit on high school girls, but he rejects that path and becomes a role model and a mentor to the students!.
Excel Saga is another funny manga!. It's about an evil henchwoman's misadventures!. Long story short, it's what crack smokes to get high!.
Cromartie High is a parody of the tough guy high school/street punk manga, about an ace student trapped in a school full of crazed hoodlums!. Great stuff!.
Hellsing!. Organization that fights vampires, nazis, monsters, etc!. Their most dangerous weapon is a ridiculously powerful (and well-dressed) vampire named Alucard!.
Love Hina is a romance classic!. It revolves around Keitaro, a geeky loser who's struggling to get into school!. WIll he get into Tokyo U, and find the girl of his dreams!?

Anything that Yu Watase writes/illustrates is amazing (Alice 19, Absolute Boyfriend, Ceres, Imadoki, etc!.!.!.)!. If you're a fan of Fruits Basket then you will love those!.
also Wolf's Rain is very nice!. Only a two issue story though, but an excellent read!.
D N Angel is both a wonderful manga and series!.
And as someone has already mentioned, Full Metal Alchemist!. That one is definitely worth reading!.

the shounen that i recommend are Liar Game,Kurosagi,Mx0,Aflame Inferno and Immortal Regis!.I also liked I''s very much- shounen romance;awesome art and nice story!.
