Hi, I'm a manga artist whose book is getting published this month, and I can tell you the "cheap" way (*cough* nothing in this hobby is cheap) to make professional-looking (ish) comics, if that's what you want, but just so you know, a decent looking page can range anywhere from 4-12 hours!.

First, you're going to need an outline, write your story in script format, then read through and mark off in your script where you want to put frames (a page usually has approximately 5 or 6 frames, though I've done 1 frame pages and 8 frame pages)!. Then try to decide where to put page breaks and mark those in as well (they need to be put at gaps or suspense point in the story)!.

Next, you'll need paper, I suggest the Strathmore Bristol Vellum 9x12 paper (for sale at your local Hobby Lobby or craft store for about $7), it may be a bit pricey, but it lasts forever, can put up to a good beating, and can hold ink like nobody's business, even through erasing!. also get a good eraser (with the bristol paper, you can use white polymer erasers and not loose any inking quality), a ruler (I usually use transparent ones, with my ink and paper the ink doesn't run, so it's safe, and you can see the frames and stuff beneath your ruler), and some pencils for sketching!. Once you've drawn all your frames and sketched out your story, ink it using black "Faber Castell 4 PITT artist pens" (there are 4 sizes, do NOT buy the manga set, it is a ripoff) also available at your local Hobby-Lobby!. Once all your comics have been inked and erased, you should scan them in to your computer!. You can either use your own scanner, a friend's scanner, or sometimes local libraries have one you could use!.

Now to color your comics, you can do them B and W or color, and you can use the same program for both, gimp is similar to photoshop, but takes some getting used too:

For anyone writing graphic novels in black and white, it is very hard to find screentones (much less buy them at $3 a sheet, esh!.!.!.)

If you want a cheap program to work with, you can download gimp here for free: http://www!.gimp!.org/downloads/
Anyway, you can download several screentones here: http://www!.kittytreats!.org/screentones/

If you want to upload the screentones into gimp be sure the screentones are all saved in one file, mine automatically saved them all in a folder called "dots and screens" open gimp and under the "file" menu on your toolbar, go down to "preferences", open the "folders" drop down and go down to "patterns", now from here on out, I do not remember exactly what I did, but I'm sure you can figure it out, do not delete the folder already there, those are the presets, add the new folder you created, and be sure that one is checked!. That's pretty much all there is to it!

also, if you go to your menu above you picture and go over to "image" and drop down to "mode" the image will most likely be RGB or Grayscale, if you change/leave it at Grayscale everything will *gasp* appear gray!

As for a story!? That's up to you, write about something you enjoy, fantasy, sports, food, whatever!. If I'm stuck, I write down funny things my friends say in the form of comics, and many of those are downright HILARIOUS!. True stories frequently make good comic books!.

Good Luck!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Do comics about relationships in series like naruto!. Like, do one about Sakura and Sasuke, or Naruto and Sakura, or Sasuke and Naruto and Sakura <3 lol!.

Yeah!.!.

oh, and make a very appealing looking thing, with the name of your bussniess in Katakana (use babel fish!.)

Good luck!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It really isn't clear what your situation is!. Are you going to attempt to publish your own comics!? If so, as a publisher, you shouldn't have much contact with the general public!. I just get the impression that whatever you are attempting to do, you are going about it the wrong way!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
