Who invented the term "Fanboys" to describe devoted fans of things? An!

Question: Who invented the term "Fanboys" to describe devoted fans of things!? And are you getting a bit tired of it!?
I am a huge fan of various TV shows, movie franchises, authors, sports, and many other things!. And, yes, I am a male!.

But why won't the term "fan" suffice anymore!? Who invented the silly term "fanboys", as though it denotes some higher, more geeky level of fan!?

Answers:
Fanboy (and fangirl for that matter) has an entirely different connotation than simply "fan" does to me!.

Being a fan of something simply means that you are enthusiastic about something and get enjoyment from it!.

On the other hand, I view fanboy and fangirl as more of an insult!. The addition of boy and girl imply a youthful immaturity and obsessiveness that you don't really get from just "fan!."

If someone says you are a fan of a certain band- it just means that you enjoy their music!. If they say you are a fanboy or fangirl of that band, then it doesn't mean you are a better, higher, or more knowledgable fan of the band!. It is implying instead that you are obsessed with the band to a fault, that you completely overlook any imperfections, and that at times you are very annoying when it comes to that band!.

There's a clear difference between fan and fanboy!. So I'm not sure what you mean by getting tired of the term, or ask why mereley "fan" won't suffice!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

No one specific person invented the name!.

Fan comes from the word fanatic!. And Fanboy is just another derivative!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
