Kagome left because she wasnt needed anymore since the jewel was collected and she wanted to be with her family!. After high school though, Kagome really wanted to see inuyasha again because she was truely in love with him and wanted to be with him!.
Why the well closed wasnt said or even implied!. But my guess is because thats how the two times were connected and now that her job was done she could no longer go back!.
