OVA = Original Video Animation / Adaptation!. These are usually reserved for direct manga / book / novel adaptations of series!. Usually it means, they take an existing storyline & build off that (so little to no background is given, it just goes / starts), & heavily depends on existing series / literature for any background info!.
And by convention is usually used for one-shot / short pilot series to test if its worth spending money to make a full series, or is used as "extra" encore eps (prequel, sequel & side-story) for an existing series!.
There are a total of 2 OVAs (4 & 2 eps each), 1 series (94 eps & 1 special), and 1 movie!.

The three you just mentioned are all OVA's and there's one movie called Samurai X!. I forget what OVA stands for, I think it's something like Original Video!.!.!.!.!.something!? Hope I helped a little!.!.!.!. :)

The name of the actual series is called Rurouni Kenshin!. I know it's all very confusing!. The art in the movie Samurai X is the same as the art in the series Rurouni Kenshin!. The art in the OVA's are completely different!. That's one noticeible difference!. As to why the OVA's aren't just called movies I have no idea, I think there's a reason for it, but I can't remember right now!. I love Rurouni Kenshine the series, the movie and the OVA's! All three that you named are OVA which means, Original Video Animation!. Basically meaning they went straight to video!.
