Incredible Hulk comics, volumes 1, 2, 3...?!

Question: Incredible Hulk comics, volumes 1, 2, 3!.!.!.!?
I'm having some trouble organising my collection of Hulk comics!.

It seems to me that there are two volumes of the Hulk!. Volume one begins with Incredible Hulk #1, in 1962!. The comic's title page doesn't give the volume number!. Much later in the series, Incredible Hulk #400 (1992) lists that series as volume one!. Strangely, many people seem to refer to this series as "volume two"

It then seems that the current run of comics, which is at about #117, should be volume two!. This is the run including the Planet Hulk/World War Hulk storyline around #100!. It's often cited as "volume three"!.

Can anyone tell me why this is, if there was a hidden mini-volume somewhere (like "Hulk Reborn" or something!?) that can account for this!? It seems strange that the comics type "volume one" and people refer to it as "volume 2"!.

Any answer would be greatly appreciated!Www@Enter-QA@Com

The first series doesn't identify itself as volume one, because when it was published there was no reason to anticipate a second volume!. That volume only lasted six issues!.

What many people would assume is a second volume of "The Incredible Hulk" is actually 'Tales to Astonish' renamed!. The Hulk shared that book with the Submariner for awhile, but in 1968 Marvel found a new distributor and got out of a bad situation with a distributor who had placed a cap on the number of books Marvel could market each month!. The Submariner went on to his own book, which started with a #1, and the Hulk starred in his own book which continued the numbering from 'Tales to Astonish'!. That series lasted until Marvel decided to imitate Image in the mid-9os and hired Rob Liefeld to "re-imagine" various titles, including the Hulk!. The horrible books that were produced in that poorly thought out experiment only lasted 13 issues, and technically that pizz-poor series would be the second volume of the Hulk!.

Once Marvel decided to get rid of Liefeld, they rebooted the titles they had allowed Liefeld to give the Image treatment, after a "special event" called 'Heroes Return' and the books in question started over with new #1 issues, which is why the current Hulk title is sometimes called "volume three'!.

I think you could hunt high and low and never find a volume number on any Marvel comic, but dealers used the volume numbers to differenciate the difference in series which had more that one #1 issue!.

And, yes, it is confusing, even if you think you know what is going on!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Jon Glade missed out on some points!.

Incredible Hulk volume 1!. Did last only 6 issues!.

he reappeared in tales To Astonish!.
And that was renamed Incredible Hulk with issue 102 and that lasted all the way to 474 That is volume 2!.

here is where it starts to get confusing!. Rampaging Hulk magazine turns into a comic format and is renamed HULK with issue 10 and goes through 27!. That is the first volume of just plain HULK!.

Hulk was indeed a part of Heroes reborn!. but he did not get his own book!. he was featured in the Avengers title!. And unlike the other four Marvel books in heroes reborn!. his title was not cancelled or stopped!. Peter David took this time, to write stories about the future Hulk!. while hulk was away playing i n the heroes reborn universe!.

marvel began publishing plain Hulk vol!. 2!. in 1999!. After it cancelled Incredible Hulk vol 2!. it didnt skip a beat it just moved into Hulk volume 2!.

Well then after issue 11!. Hulk volume 2 was turned into Incredible Hulk volume 3!. it ran for issues 12-74 and stopped in September 2004!. in january 2005!. they started back up again and it ran through issue 112!. where this title became Incredible hercules!.

Then they Launched HULK vol 3!. which is what is running at present!.

So you see!. there are three volumes of incredible hulk!.
and three volumes of HULK!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
