The final chapter of the manga clearly states that Near becomes L's sucessor and starts earning millions of dollars each year solving cases with the orphanage guy (the one that told Near and Mello that L died) who BTW becomes the new Watari!.

Yes, Near is an only child but he just solves the Kira case and seems to dissapear afterward!.Nothing is said about what happens to him after that!.Sorry! :(Www@Enter-QA@Com
