What you see in the series is basically all you get as far as what the creators had in mind!. All I'm going to describe to you is basically what you see in very quick stills and brief animations that occur in episode episode 5 (Ballad of Fallen Angels,) episodes 11 and 12 (Jupiter Jazz,) the last two episodes (The Real Folk Blues) and also the stills that you see during the end credits of every episode of the series!.

It is insinuated that Vicious and Spike were friends or at least close work colleagues in a crime syndicate!. All was well and good until Spike falls in love with Julia (in what appears to be love-at-first-sight) when she's already Vicious' girl!. After caring for him after he's nearly killed, she too falls for him!. Spike and Julia then make a pact to attempt to escape the syndicate and Vicious!. However, Vicious learns of their love and plans to flee!. He then detains Julia from meeting Spike during the hour of their escape and then lays a trap to have Spike killed!. Instead, Spike manages to barely escape the assignation attempt while losing an eye and fakes his own death in the process unwittingly, so it seems!. Meanwhile Julia goes underground presumably to avoid being killed and thinking that Spike is dead!. Vicious remains vengeful while Spike feels dead in his new life without Julia!.
