I hate BAD anime!.!.!. which is generally the ones that are translated into English and aired on children's television!.
Some anime is okay for a short while, but if it stretches on beyond 50 episodes, it's bound to become a repetitive piece of garbage (especially when filler episodes are pumped out before mangas are finished)!.
Anime movies are the best!.!.!. My Neighbor Totoro!.!.!. anything from Studio Ghibli!.
My favorite anime in the entire world is this series called "Kaiba" - no not the Yu-Gi-Oh! character!. It's fairly new, only 7 episodes so far!. The art style is very different and fresh sometimes varying from episode to episode, it reminds me of Astro Boy!. The story-telling is magnificent!. I often have to rewatch an episode to understand it fully!.!.!. Oh, and it's an "adult" series (not porn, but handles topics that children wouldn't understand nor should they see) and very philosophical!.

Anyway, I digress!. Anime is becoming critically washed out!. It seems like it's the only style that the US cares about and will produce, but a few years from now, anime will be gone (MEANING: OUT OF STYLE) and something new will be the fad!.
I think it's best to ignore anime and the raging fans (of whom, I agree, ruin everything) and just go watch some old Johnny Bravo, Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, Reboot, and whatever!.!.!.
But you gotta remember, there are some pretty bad American cartoons out there as well (ranging from television series to movies)!. I won't mention any, but you probably know what I'm talking about!. I do tend to have much more fond memories of Batman the Animated Series, The Secret of NIMH, and dozens of Disney movies than those of Pokémon or Sailor Moon!.!.!.

well apparently you havent taken the time to even look over some different types of anime!. drawing styles vary greatly (from the style of one piece to cowboy bebop to ayashi no ceres)
and every single one has a radically different plot!.
maybe you're just thinking about generic shoujo manga!. that stuff sometimes does get a little blah sometimes, but if you know how to look for a good one, then you can totally immerse yourself in it!.
there are so many different types of anime, and some really interesting plots that beat out most of the cartoons in america in terms of quality and awesomeness in general =]

I don't think you should rule out the entire art form!. A lot of mainstream anime is, as you say, the same story rehashed!. What really bothers me is how ridiculous a lot of the fans are!. But really, fangirls/boys of ANYTHING are scary!.!.!.
I think if you look outside the norm, you'll discover that there are a lot of original storylines wrapped in anime-style visuals!. After all, the AMERICAN cartoon Invader Zim is technically still within an anime-style!. I'm pretty picky with what animes I will actually watch because I find many of them to be obnoxious and unintelligent (and sometimes the artwork is simply not up to par)!. However, I have found several with musical scores that are simply amazing, as well as a few with sincerely original and interesting storylines -- and all wrapped in some beautiful artwork!. These are not, however, generally the mainstream series!. Mainstream series typically are not very plot-driven since they want viewers to enjoy single episodes and start enjoying the series from any point in time, rather than requiring that you see every episode!. This isn't much different from any other media form, however, so this is not surprising!.

nope thats where your worng here in america we have that same old stuff over and over again we just remix it here u know stuff like superman, spiderman, ect thats all we have have here just a whole lot of messed up remixes of the original storys to bad for you american comic and animation lovers cause im not one of them al thogh i do have hope for us yet with avatar and all we got something to bragabout now something original thats good to yay for hope

I think it's immature, and that when people use "how to draw" books and basically copy anime characters out of them!.!.!.it's not art, it's replication!. Anime are cartoons, not real artwork!.
