Yes, there are actually a lot!. Manga isn't just where an anime could be adapted, there are also light novels such as Shakugan no Shana and Zero no Tsukaima!. Well actually both has light novels and mangas!. Kino's Journey or Kino no Tabi is a great example of light novels!. For Visual Novels are based on computer games such as Shuffle!, Clannad, Happiness, and School Days!.

Although it IS true that many anime come from manga, not ALL do!.
It's almost always the case that there is something predating the anime though, because it is much MUCH cheaper to try an idea out on something else than it is to animate it, and they don't want to invest money in an untried idea!.
If it isn't a manga, some anime come from Light Novels (books), such as Kino no Tabi and Baccano!!. Another place where anime comes from are Visual Novels (computer games), such as Kanon, Higurashi, and Clannad!.
Some examples of anime that came before ANYTHING else are Dennou Coil, Gurren Lagann, Gunbuster/Diebuster, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Real Drive, Mononoke, Kemonozume, etc etc!. And many, MANY movies are original as well!. (also note, some get adapted to manga AFTER they were anime)!. There are plenty anime out there like this, these are just a couple off the top of my head!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
