Question: What state are the simpson's from!?
I found this question and everyone answered Illinois!. Well that is incorrect!. The true answer is Oregon!. Several of the characters were named after streets here in Portland ,
Reverend Lovejoy= NW Lovejoy st
Sideshow Bob Terwilliger= SW Terwilliger
Mayor Joe Quimbly= NW Quimbly
Ned Flanders= Nw Flanders
Kearny school yard bully who beats up Bart= NW Kearny and the list goes on!.

Matt Groening has said that he based it off Springfield, OR and Beaverton, OR!. It is however impossible for the Springfield on the show to exist in our world unless you know of a state that borders Ohio, Nevada, Maine AND Kentucky as Ned Flanders stated in the movie!.
There was a contest between many of the various Springfields (only 34 states have a Springfield contrary to what everyone seems to think based on the last time this question was asked) to see which of them would host the movie's premiere!. Springfield, Vermont won the contest but it doesn't mean anything of course!. Anywho, after the contest Matt Groening sent plaques to all the mayors of the cities that participated and the one that he sent to Springfield, Oregon's mayor was the only one that he wrote "To the real Springfield" on!.

The Behind the Laughter episode did mention it at the end of the show!.
Narrator: The Simpsons' bitter past was forgotten, and now the future looks brighter than ever for this northern Kentucky family!.
However, subsequent airings of the episode show that "northern Kentucky" was changed to "Southern Missouri!.
All of this was merely a joke by the writers to stir up more questions about what state it's in and get everyone in a panic!.
Springfield does not exist!. Or more accurately, Springfield is an amalgamation of whatever towns fit the needs of the episode(s)!.
