For manga, there generally isn't a set date or time frame for how long a series will run!. Much like every other form of entertainment that operates in the form of serialization, the story will probably run as long as its popular and as long as the mangaka/creator has fresh ideas!. Of bcourse, those aren't the only reasons that keep them ongoing, but you get the point!. Like TV shows, no one really has all of the seasons and episodes to their shows mapped out!. Shows/manga/comics/etc!. get a trial basis to gauge popularity and then go from there!. Vampire Knight is ongoing, like you mentioned, and so far there hasn't been any news from the creator- Matsuri Hino - nor her editors of when the forseeable end will be for the manga!.

One more thing, it isn't uncommon for mangakas and their magazines to announce the upcoming end of a series when they've figured out when the manga will come to a close!. Most of the time that happens further down the road and not early!.

As for anime, I don't watch a lot of it nor am I an expert on the process of how it gets done in Japan!. However, based on my experience with a couple of animes, it seems that when an animation studio decides to do an anime for a manga, they also decide at the same time how many episodes there will be for the first seasons!.

It seems that Vampire Knight will have 26 episodes for it's first season!. Whether there will be a second season is entirely up to the animation studio!. They're not required or obligated to continue animating the series as far as the manga goes!. That's why you get animation studios that will make an anime of a currently ongoing series!. Ouran High School Host Club only had one season, but the manga is currently ongoing!. Inuyasha, the manga is still ongoing, but the anime has since ended (though they have had a couple of OVAs here and there)!. Similarly, Fruits Basket, while wildly popular, only had one season with 20 something episodes!. The anime did not fully reflect the entirety of the manga!.

So to make a long answer short, there is not yet a set ending date for Vampire Knight (the manga) and it's only known for sure that VK will have at least its first season of 26 episodes!.

Idk how the do it, but i often notice that most episodes in an anime are filler episode [ie shugo chara extended to 56 episodes- bound to be fillers]!. They might have like secret meetings and talk about what's gonna happen!. idk idk idk!

i would try wikipedia for when it endsWww@Enter-QA@Com
