What was the name of this bizzare anime series?!

Back in the 80s, I saw what appeared to be the pilot episode of an anime in which the plot was that an evil empire was taking over the countryside and invading whole lands, but the bad guys were unique in that they didn't kill or capture their prisoners, instead they transformed all of the humans into dark gray stone blocks which were used to construct this evil castle that grew bigger and bigger as more people were conquered!. The sole survivor of the attack on one village was a young girl whose family was transformed into the stone blocks and the ending scene showed her family being integrated into a stack of other blocks made of human beings that made up the castle, and she was trying to find out a way to save them somehow!. Good grief, they made freaky stuff in the 80s!. What was that anime, anyways!?Www@Enter-QA@Com
