His friend Obito was from the Uchiha clan!. So when Kakashi became a jounin (age 16 or something), everyone was giving him gifts from his team (Obito (liked Rin-hated Kakashi), Rin (a girl like Kakashi-hated Obito), and the fourth Hokage)!. Obito was the only one without a gift!. So, when they went on a mission, Kakashi was in charge but Rin was kidnapped by enemy shinobi!. Obito and Kakashi went out to save Rin, but Kakashi lost his left eye due to an encounter with the enemy shinobi and Obito was badly injured (otherwise known as crushed to death by giant boulder), except for a portion of his face (his right eye)!. So, Obito, knowing that he was going to die gave his eye to Kakashi through the help of Rin, who was a medical ninja!. Hence, the sharingan can never be turned off and it constantly drains his energy even with the patch on (although it does help to some degree)!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
he got it by a transplant by rin, a medical ninjha and kakashis teammate when the 4th was still alive!. obito, another member of kakashis team and a member of the uchiha clan got crushed during a mission to save rin!. he saved her but got crushed by a bulder!. and since obito knew he was about to die he told rin to transplant it into kakashi as a present for becoming a jonin =3

when they were kids kakashi and his teammates obito ,an uchiha(much like naruto), and rin!. ninja captured rin and obito went after them while kakashi said that the mission was more important!. obito tried to save rin but was almost killed until kakashi came and helped!. they were in a cave an it started to cave in!. a huge boulder fell on one side of obito crushing one eye, he then aked rin to give his eye , which was in the sharingan form, to kakashi because a ninja slashed his left eye and onito would die anyway!. so she did!. kakashi has the mangekyo sharingan because onito was his best friend and he considers that he killed obito!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Long story short he got his sharingan from his dead Friend Uchiha Obito when they was young Obito did that in favor for Kakashi who saved Rin's life (the third team mate in kakashi's team)
