I was right and nobody listened (anime fans)?!

Question: I was right and nobody listened (anime fans)!?
Anime to live action does NOT work

Anime to live action flops (for fans)

-Speed Racer (train wreck)
-Transformers (had a good chance but getting michael bay was a huge mistake)
-Shaolin Soccer (Captain Tsubasa live-action sounds ridiculous)

Upcoming casualties
-Ghost In The Shell (directed by Speilberg)
-Dragonball (directed by Stephen Chow)
-Voltron (not much info)
-Pokemon (may not be true but the thought is bad enough)

the main question

Are you still gonna watch all the American live-action adaptations after they've destroyed and are destroying original high quality anime stories!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
yeah!.!.!. americans really need to get their own idea!.!.!.!. you forgot the one called heros: abilities from stuff like anime or from stuff like x-menWww@Enter-QA@Com

I hate, really hate, live action remakes of anime!. It sounds such a great idea but they ruin it!. And its not just the americans that have form for ruining my favourite shows!. The japanese do a great job by themselves:
Lovely complex movie - sucked
death note (both) - really sucked
you're under arrest - the worst thing i have ever seen

Worse than ghost in the shell and eva being made into live action (eva might be okay as they will dumb it down so there will be a version of eva that does make your brain hurt) is that I've been hearing for a while that hollywood wants to do a live action Akira to 'celebrate' the worlds best animated movie!. Seems strange to choose to celebrate a brilliant movie by making and expensive but completely inept remake of it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I tend to agree with you since a movie's length prohibits the full development of characters/plots/relations between characters!. Though this might only be a distraction to die hard fans of the anime!. In the end it's doubtful if you can please everybody by taking an already popular series and condensing/adapting it to fit a movie format!. I prefer the Jdrama adaptation approach myself but I don't seem to get a vote!. Having said all that, I'd still watch them if only to see how badly the adaptation was done!. I'm especially interested the in the aforementioned Macross movie!. I really hope they make it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Hey, my friend saw speed racer and liked it! Emile Hersch is in it! The other two, I kinda have to agree!. and the other 4 I also kinda agree!. Possibly, but I didn't like many of these accept maybe pokemon when I was little and speed racer, and the others I just watch in Japanse with subtitles, sometimes!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

american are not only copying animes and manga but also the greatest japanese horror films like one missed call and few others others, i agree with you speed racer hasn't turned out very good but i liked transformersWww@Enter-QA@Com

you're totally correct about everything =p

they should just make more anime shows form manga than to make an anime show to an American live action!.!.

^_^Www@Enter-QA@Com

I will not watch it- American adaptations suck! They're ruining the quality of the best loved animes!Www@Enter-QA@Com

=/ Now now!.
Look at Hana-kimi's success!.
But that's because they adapted it from the manga!.
If they took a little more time, things would work out better!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Probably, if for no other reason than to annoy the other people in the theater with my outbursts of rage!.
xD
I hate American adaptions - why can they come up with their own freaking ideas for film!?!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Get some facts right first!.

Speed racer is a dud, granted!.

Transformers was not a bomb!. It made tons of money!. And actually, for a Bay film, it is not that bad!.

Shaolin Soccer was not made by americans or in america and is not an adaptation of Captain Tsubasa, maybe inspired by it, yes, but not a straight adaptation!. And the movie is very fun, and it actually made a profit, so I don't see where the 'bomb' definition fits here!.

Ghost in the shell has a big chance of being awesome, but it could also suck, so I'm just gonna wait and see if this actually gets made, since it has been in talks for years!.

Dragon Ball is going to suck, nobody is going to argue that!.

Voltron!.!.!. that one, if made, is probably going to suck, it will suck even more if it's based on the horrible Voltron Lions!.

Pokemon!? I don't think that will ever get made!.

I've heard there's plans to bring Robotech to the big screen and I also think that would be a great move if done right!.

Take some valium dude, the anime/manga adaptations are just starting and the only one that's made loads of money to a studio was Transformers, after the wreck that is Speed Racer I'm sure studios will think twice before just jumping on this trend!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well Shaolin Soccer wasn't an American adaption, and although I've not seen it yet, a lot of my friends enjoy the heck out of it!

As for the others, Ghost in the Shell has potential, and it could be an adaptation of the original Manga, which was very different from the film!. Just going to have to wait and see on that!.

I liked Voltron as a kid, but like all cartoons of the 80's, it's not exactly the Citizen Cane of Anime!. So I wouldn't expect it to be a good movie!.

Most likely this one's getting made into a movie because people like me remember the show and just like Speed Racer, Underdog, Alvin and the Chimpmunks, Scooby Do, G!.I!. Joe and all those other 80's cartoons/shows Hollywood is trying recycle, it has more to do with nostalgia than anime!. They think they will draw a crowd because they were popular back then!.

Dragonball Z is kind of in that boat too!. It's been around and was popular for some strange reason!. I thought it was pretty dumb and way too long!. But there again, Hollywood is trying to cash in on past popularity!.

As for why they try to do live action versions, a large group of people here in the States still see animation as a "kids only" thing which is really sad since there have been a lot of really good animated films made!Www@Enter-QA@Com

I partially agree with you!.

I was never a fan of any (at least as far as I've seen) American live-action adaptation of manga or anime, either!. So I probably won't be watching any of them in theaters and just wait for someone to upload them in video-sharing sites for curiosity's sake!. Not because the quality is bad, but only because I think they try to make it so American that they end up missing what makes these stories great!.

I mean, look at Speed Racer, it looks so cheesy just from the trailer!. And Michael Bay for Transformers!? Need I mention Pearl Harbor or his queer obsession with giant robotic spiders!? (Transformers did make money, though!.)

But, I'll have to disagree with Shaolin Soccer!. Stephen Chow only based it loosely from Captain Tsubasa and at least he had enough respect for the original to give it a different title and somehow separate it from the manga/anime in the eyes of the general public!. It was also very entertaining and was one of the most successful movies in Asian box-office (about $60 million USD), which is the movie's primary market!. So it wasn't a flop and it didn;t destroy anything since it was meant to be a satirical look at soccer and Shaolin Kung Fu from the beginning and not an adaptation of the manga!.

Now, as for the rest of the titles in your list, I do feel very apprehensive about them, especially since Ghost in the Shell, Voltron, and Dragonball (OK, even Pokemon) are already classics in their own right!.

However, I do think that the problem doesn't just lie in American adaptations of manga and anime!. If you think about it, apart from Spiderman and Batman, even some American adaptations of their own comics are flops, like the one starring Ben Affleck (I can't remember the title), Jennifer Garner's Electra, and the adaptation of Hulk, where despite big-named stars still failed to make it in the box-office!. They weren't that great either!. No wonder Neil Gaiman has been very protective of his Sandman characters!.

Anyhow, I'm not against live-action adaptations of manga and anime, I just don't like the bad ones!. But, unless I see a good American live-action adaptation of an original manga or anime, I'll be staying away from them until I'm proven wrong!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
