It can also be interpreted as a biblical reference!. The apple represents knowledge -good and evil- and may also pertain to the judgment of others!. What is right and what is wrong!? Who can answer that question!?

Perhaps death gods eat apples because they are the only ones who should be able to determine the death of another, simply because they do not determine it based on right or wrong!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I really don't think it stands for anything, but if it did, I would think that it represents the world!.!.!.when Misa digs up the notebook and sees Ryuk again he asks her if she happens to have an apple!. When she asks why he likes them so much, he hands her an apple from the shinigami world and tells her to try it!.!.!.she does!.!.!.it's sand!. He goes on to say that human apples are "juicy!." Since their world is nothing!.!.!.dried up and all about death, as they need human death to live, I think that apples (the ones from the human world) represent the world in that it's colorful and full of life, unlike the sandy ones from the shinigami world, and that Light can have and/or has the world in his hands!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Intelligence or knowledge of the unknown!. Because the shinigami(brain fart) Ryuk knows how Light will die!. Its like in the Bible the forbidden fruit!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Maybe that the world is his apple!? Ripe and for the taking!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
