i' m pretty sure it was a mission from konoha because the uhiha clan is greatly feared and pronamed one of the strongest clans and they cloudn't risk them to be alive

Well, the reason itachi kill the uchiha clan is that madara made him to do it!. As what madara(tobi) says to itachi that to prove your loyalty to me ,to be become more powerful and one of my alliance you must kill your closest love ones or friends!.

well itachi killed shisui his best friend, and a member of the uchiha clab in order to obtain the magenkyou sharingan however the rest of the members of the uchila clan were killed by itachi as a mission which was top secret he tried to hide this by saying that he was jus testing his skills!. he prbably did this so that he could become a member of akatsukiWww@Enter-QA@Com
