cuz the 3rd hokage was old and needed to pic another hokage and the 4th was really strong (known as strongest ninja in the leaf village) and was appropriate for being a hokage and i think the leaf village needed a nother hokage because they need to defend themselves from the nine tail fox!.!.!.!.but luckily the 4th traded his life to seal it away in naruto!!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well, the sandaime (third hokage) began getting old and then the yondaime (fourth hokage) stepped in and took over since he was pretty freaking beastly!. but unfortunately, he died sealing the kyuubi and so sandaime had to take over again because there was no one in the village at the time suited to become the godaime (5th hokage)!.

ok it went the ist then the 2nd then the 3rd, which is the hokage we all know and love, but then he stepped down and the 4th became hokage but the when the kyuubi attacked he died and the 3rd became hokage again!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
