Shutter... The Juon (Grudge )... japanese version ... is SCARY beyond extreems!!!!!!!.......

I believe it's mostly due to the cultural differences/preferences between the United States and Japan. An example would be that currently the States are going through what has been referred to as the "torture porn" or "gorno" era, an extension of the famous "splatter" genre of horror films. This caught on with the release of "Saw" in 2004 and the trend continued with "Hostel", "The Devil's Rejects" and so on. However, there were several films that were done in other foreign countries like France and Japan that have since then been classified as being a part of this current genre even though they were done nearly 4-5 years before "Saw" appeared on the screen.

It could be assumed that America has more a fascination with films that depict large quantities of gore, where as in Japan that haven't been too many releases that focus specifically on blood as its main appeal. I'm not saying that its exactly true since there are several films that have become quite popular for there portrayal of blood in Japan, but I have seen several horror animes/films that either place more emphasis of psychological or Japanese culture (like the curses depicted in "The Ring" and "The Grudge"). Plus, in comparison between a anime and film, the former easily takes advantage of its episodic format to build suspense whereas films are more suppressed in their material.
